Monday.

What is wrong with this picture? you are all no doubt asking yourselves. The answer is simple. The Horner garden, though small, is usually quite neat. And the picture shows it to be far otherwise today. The reason for this is also quite simple. The house is being repainted, so various hanging baskets have to be taken off the walls, and other things have to be moved so that doorways can be got at, and yet other spaces cleared for ladders. Our decorator, Allen, who is a bell ringer at St. Mary's, is no great believer in hiring scaffold towers when his ladders will do the trick perfectly well. He is a very quick and neat painter and prices his work very reasonably. He is also a great believer in the fairly frequent cuppa and conversation, so that I am looking forward to a very sociable week/ten days.

We've just had supper, and then indulged in a two handed game of scrabble. Our scores added up to seven hundred and sixty four points, which is going some, what ? No real fireworks in the game (just one seven letter word -'eggcups'), but generally making the most of the letters. Very satisfying. Spent most of today getting ready for Long Melford on Wednesday. Nearly bedtime now, so Goodnight all.

Yes. It's not been too bad so far, and Alan expects to complete the job next Wednesday (weather permitting, as he says).
