Monday.

Orchids. Ann was given this one about eighteen months ago. It finally stopped flowering early last winter, so Ann cut it back just above the leaves. We were convinced it was dead or at least that it was not going to flower again, but about six weeks ago it decided to put out new shoots, and is now, as you see, in full flower.
Didn't write all I should have done yesterday about our lunch in Bury St. Edmund's. Our friends gave us a dish of chicken breasts in a sort of creamy sauce with asparagus in it, with new potatoes and runner beans. For pudding she gave us rhubarb and strawberry cobblers. Rhubarb and strawberries go together better than you'd think. The best way I can describe cobblers (for the benefit of my colonial friends - who may well have invented it!!!) is as a kind of sweet dumplings baked with the fruit. With cream. Ann has just been reading this over my shoulder and says she has had the orchid for at least three years, but I'd say that it hasn't flowered for the last nine months. Although we seem to be getting it right, we would appreciate any hints as to it's proper care and upbringing. Got two - both now in flower.

On our way home yesterday we made a slight detour into Lavenham and took photoes, some of which I'll try and show later.
Must knock off now - going out to lunch with friends - "What again?" do I hear ? yes, in Norfolk this time.
Cheers, Mike.
