Saturday.

Orchids. Don't know why but these things remind me of the Mikado. Three little maids from school perhaps?

Got into our car at 9a.m. this morning and drove up to Brundall (few miles east of Norwich) to collect and pay for the long case clock I bought on Tuesday morning. As it turned out the vendor also had for sale another long case clock by a maker who lived in our area. Bought this also, and rather to my surprise was able to pack both clocks and, fortunately, both of us, into our little Honda Jazz!!!! Did this by folding down both front and rear nearside seats, Ann driving, meself occupying rear offside passenger seat, and the two grandfather clocks over the folded down nearside seats one on top of the other. Drove halfway home and decided to stop off at the home of a good friend of ours, a young antique furniture restorer (as that sounds like a contradiction in terms, I'll reword it) :- a young restorer of antique furniture (put like that it sounds rather pedantic - but let it stand). Found Tony, and his four sons in and he agreed to restore one of the clock cases that needed his expert attention, so left it with him. Should perhaps tell the story of the four sons - Anthony and his wife Jenny had two sons in quick succession, so decided to try again in the hope of a girl. They soon found they were carrying twins, and, as it turned out, they were two more boys. They were both quite philosophical about this, and, as Tony says, are now in position to supply a five-a-side football team, i.e. Tony and his four sons. Got home in time to unload remaining clock, grab a cheese sandwich, and gallop round to scrabble club. Played two games, Phyllis won the first, and I the second. Ann's calling me upstairs for cuppa. More later perhaps.
