Friday 1.

Friday afternoon now and we've just got back from a trip to Lewes in Sussex. The meal illustrated is Tuesday evening's supper :- rump steak and vegetables, followed by :-

Figgy apple fool. Don't ask for the menu. It's one Ann's 'just knocked up'. It was, of course, delicious.

Just before we set of on Wednesday morning, I spotted the above pulsitilla (Pasque Flower) in the garden. It's supposed to flower about Easter time and did. I don't recall having seen one flowering again in the autumn.

One of the dahlia's is having another try at flowering,

as is a lupin.

This nerine is normal, they usually flower till November.

Drove down to Twyford, where ther's an antique shop I can usually buy at. Had to take a snap of the advert in the window above. Should be a very good seller I should think : - a recipe for fresh and healthy home made children.

This photo's got into the wrong place. The reason we were going down to Lewes was that, on Thursday, The early Metalware Society had been invited to have a look round the Ann of Cleeves House collection of early metalware. The collection has just been rejigged and there were a good many pieces that the curator wished to discuss with us, and a few that she freely admitted she had no idea about, and wished (quite frankly) to pick our brains on. As our secretary warned us :- "Opinions will be sought on unknown objects!"
They were !!! But I think that we were, as a Society, able to give assistance and information, on almost all of the 'unknown objects' with which we were presented , and it was a great privilege to be allowed to handle some lovely objects in the reserve collections.  As I've probably said before, the only one of the Ten Commandments that gives me much trouble these days is the one that bans covetousness. Yesterday I found meself covetting a good deal, I'm afraid.
