Thursday 5.
Here the river Brett is inhabited by (on the left) a large Newfoundland bitch, and on the right by a Newfoundland-cross- Bernese dog. All three of them (there was another Newfoundland X Bernese dog) galloped up to us along the river bank, having left their owner far behind. They paused for a courteous wag and lick with us, then all leapt into the river. In fairness, when they came out, they were more social, ran back to us, socialised and shook themselves vigorously all over us. At this point their owner panted up, full of apologies for their behaviour. We assured her that as we were in our sloe picking scruff it couldn't have mattered less, and apologies were unecessary. A very pleasant encounter.
