Photo of one of the misericords tipped up (rather like the old cinema seats) so that the chorister can rest his backside against the shelf when standing, and appear to be standing up. Note the carved dogs on the misericorde on either side of the shelf..

They are superb Mike. The poor hound on the left appears to have an infernally itchy neck, while the hound to the right exudes tranquility and contentment (despite being of the Hebrew persuasion if I read the minor de tail aright).
A few centuries of burnishing has given a wonderful patina to the paws, which appear to be very finely carved.
Much earlier Viking and Saxon zoo-morphism seems to have been of considerable influence in the design of these decorations.
