Saturday 2.

Ann has just finished knitting me a long red scarf, which she is modelling in the above photo. It is nearly seven foot long !!! So I shall be warmly wrapped for the rest of the winter. Must go and do some work now. Goodnight all.

Granny - that was quick !!! I have started my Father Christmas wool and managed to add to it courtesy of John Lewis ( which is where Father Christmas does much of his shopping you know ) and have begun a jumper but fear it will be sometime before I am wearing it as the yarn is quite fine.
Papa - ref your earlier blog, we have a good many jackdaws in these parts but have never seen an albino version. we did spend time yesterday afternoon watching a green woodpecker on the lawn at Frank and Janes, just a few feet from the kitchen window - a question for you, do squirrels hibernate ? If they do, why are they still awake in Milton Keynes ?
Clock still ticking and striking!
Love Stig x

Hi Stig,
squirrels are reputed to squirrel away little hoards of nuts in the Autumn, presumably for harder times in the Winter. This would suggest that they don't indulge in deep hibernation like bears and grumpy old uncles... must get back to sleep now or I won't wake up in time for spring.

Thank you Lori. I quite agree.

Hello Stig. Regarding jackdaws, see crowbards comments on the previous blog. It seems that it's not unknown but I think we took a photo of something quite unusual.

With reference to squirrels it seems to me that the jury is still out. I was told, as a boy, that squirrels hibernate. But my own observation seems to suggest that they'll always come out in mild weather to find their hoarded winter food supplies. And Granny and I both think that the red squirrel was nearer to true hibernation than the grey seems to get. I know, I'm fence sitting on this one.
Love - Papa.

I think the squirrels also sit on the fence regarding hibernation, Mike. (They also sit on the fence regarding our bird feeders.) I think they go into intermittent torpors between refuelling rather than a true hibernation.

Snap! Once for the scarf, I knitted my husband a long black scarf. At our church, instead of a winter fair, we were given a pound and asked to use our talents to turn it into more so Ian 'paid' me to knit scarf.

I went to 'sell' a jar of marmalade to a friend and found we had run out so in the next few weeks will be remedying this.

Snap! In the picture it looks as if you have the same Sony sound system as we have.

Snap! Ian and I read the lessons at church yesterday, he read from Isaiah and I read from Acts.

We don't have MU at our church, there is nothing specifically for women but I'm not bothered, I attend home group, a prayer & meditation group meeting monthly and there is the walking group - the Strollers.

Hello P.M. We have a very active MU but our Womens' Institute has just folded after about ninety years, which is a shame. We do have home groups, which we attend and occasionally host. There is usually a shared meal at these and then a discussion group on a pre-agreed subject. These tend to be good lively social evenings. You are quite right; our sound system is a Sony (I've just nipped upstairs to check). Couldn't remember - we've had it about fifteen years, I think. We do enjoy village/small town life, as you obviously do too; although I think you are in outer London ??
Regards, Mike and Ann.
