Pineapple upside down cake, made by (and being admired by) the girls, who made it under parental (and grandparental) guidance. Served up as pudding that evening, and was popular to the point of complete anihilation (of the pudding that is - not the eaters- i.e. not a crumb left). That word- anihilation- doesn't look spelled aright!!!!!

A greco-latin conflation with a literal meaning exactly opposite to its intended meaning containing a double negative. As now it was quite usual 2 or 3 millenia ago to emphasize a negative by doubling it - as in "There ain't none left!" meaning there is none left!!

nihil = nothing
ation = event/function
I'm not surprised that pud was upside down with not nothing left bar the well licked plate!
