walked into town this morning, and on the way home saw these flowers growing out of the cracks in the pavement outside the house of a friend of ours. Don't know what they're called (the flowers that is - I do know what our friends are called) but aren't they pretty? (again - the flowers that is - you won't know if our friends are pretty or not).
Just shows- it pays to keep our eyes open.
P.s.It also shows that pronouns can give rise to problems.

They are rather nice flowers. I spent some time pulling plants out from between paving slabs in my garden this morning but they weren't nice like those ones are.
I love it when flowers grow in crevices, so pretty and determined.
Hello Liz. Yes, they are very pretty and delicate looking flowers. You'd not think they were hardy enough to grow (and apparently thrive) between the cracks in the paving stones in a small town busy High Street, would you ?
Hello Zoe. Yes, and they look so natural, wherever they grow. I think plants (even, or perhaps especially)the fragile, delicate looking ones, are a good deal tougher than they look. I must look for some more, clinging to cracks in walls perhaps. Plants are pretty good psychologists, I think. Small things, apparently thriving in a hostile environment, have us all on their side immediately.
Hi Mike, Jude and I believe it to be one of the 250 or so varieties of Verbena (relatives of Vervain).
Jude sends love to you both.
Thank you Carl and Judy. I thought you would know.
