I hate to admit it Pat, but in fact it's a gas one - with real flames and it looks very convincing. The fireplace - beyond the Victorian fire surround, is Tudor, and if you stand in the fireplace (when there is no fire, of course) and look up, you can see the sky. The problem is that I'm no longer allowed to split logs on Chief Medical Adviser's say-so, and despite log splitting being, in my opinion, very therapeutic (and satisfying), so we make do with a very convincing copy - as yours, too, appears to be.
