Tuesday.

Thought you might like to see the smallsword (in every sense) I bought at Southwold on Friday. Just given it a light clean up. Sorry the detail (engraving on the blade, etc.) doesn't show, but it gives some idea.

That is an absolute delight Mike; such a pretty little "toy".

Not a 'toy' Carl. A deadly little weapon. It's been said that childhood was a Victorian invention, and there's a grain of truth in it. Small boys of the eighteenth century were not only expected to wear gentlemens' weapons (the small sword was considered an article of dress, as well as a badge of rank) and the wearer was expected to learn to use it. I think many of the earlier 'toys' were primarily an aide to learning a skill. During the last few years I've had in stock (in both cases for a short period only) two cased sets of pistols that were obviously made for an eight to ten year old. Both sets were made to use. This is the third child's sword I've had. All three were very sharp and properly tempered.
