I took the above photograph this afternoon in a sheltered spot in our garden. It is a wild violet. They bloomed prolifically there this spring, as they always do. Very occasionally, if we have a mild autumn, they will bloom again a second time; but it's very unusual, and this is the very latest I've ever seen a wild violet bloom - the 18th November!!!
I'd be interested to know if anyone else has noticed wild violets in flower this late in the year?

During the howling gales up on Glebe Cliff yesterday, I spotted some wild violets growing as well. There was also a foxglove in flower half down Church hill. Hard to believe it is late November, but the weather is very mild for the time of year.
Hello Mag. It's incredible, isn't it, that here in the most Easterly county in England, and over there in the most Westerly, wild violets are in flower? Makes me wonder if the same is true right across the kingdom? As you say, the weather has been very mild this autumn, and I suppose that's the answer, although it's turned very cold today - still, we'll see.
