Friday.
A week ago, on Friday the 20th July, I told the story of the thoroughly misguided dove, who has once again (for the sixth year in succession) nested on the wall of a house opposite to us. Yesterday morning (at about 8.30) I took the above photo of the two squabs, who seemed to me to be about ready to fly the nest. An hour later I again looked at the nest and saw that one of the squabs had flown (the one shown to the right of the picture I think).
This morning I again looked out and found the nest empty. I am glad to be able to add that neither yesterday nor today was there any sign of squished squabs on the pavement, or street, below; so that it appears that the mama dove has, at last, successfully raised a brood!

An Olympian effort on a most appropriate day Mike! Mama Dove deserves a gold medal at least - but I'm sure she values her two little aeronauts above gold.
I had Squab with the Queen at the Grosvenor House a few years ago. It was almost inedible.
Hello Crowbard. Yes, I'm sure she does.
Hello Rog. I think you MUST give us a bit more info on that one.......
'the Grosvenor House' Does that mean the Grosvenor House Antique Fair?
"I had squab with the Queen". Does that mean you shared A squab with H.M.?
No, those can't be right.
Footnotes please Rog????????
Unless, of course, it would mean revealing highly confidential information that might endanger the security of the realm.
P.s. The imagination boggles.
Robert Grosvenor, 1st Marquess of Westminster extended and developed Gloucester House and renamed it Grosvenor House way before my time. It was demolished around 1950 and the Grosvenor Hotel was built on the site using some of the materials and design ideas of the Original house. So the House was gone before EIIR was Queenified. I don't mean to squabble but I suspect there is more to Rog's tale than meets the eye!
No, No, Crowbard!I know the Grosvenor House Antique Fair. It is held in the Grosvenor House you mention and is THE antique fair of the year. It is always crowded and I imagine that the incident to which Rog refers occurred when he and H.M. had to share a squab (cushion) on the floor. That is why this squab was 'almost inedible'. Well, cushions do tend to be 'almost inedible'- that was a clue.
I had envisaged such a possibility Mike but had dismissed it on the grounds that had HM hovered in our presence or descended upon a squab upon which we were seated, we would have immediately leaped to our knees in deep and sincere obeisance. Rog gives a jolly good impression of being an English Gent, so I would expect he would behave likewise. It had not occurred to me that he might also be an Aristocratic Gent and a welcome and familiar presence for Her Maj in such an iniquitous den of cut-throats and charlatans as one finds at antique fairs! (Must remember to show a bit more respect for Rog).
And possibly, young Sir, to your senior sibling, who is often to be found at antique fairs.
Indeed you are and I am thankful for it, you are the leaven in the dough of dubious dealers, and raise those antique fairs which you attend to a level devoid of dodgy dealings!
Well done herstsaayst!
Hi Pat. This is her sixth annual attempt (that we know of) at raising a family - Success at last. Be interesting to see if she tries again next year in the same spot.
