Thursday 2.

Our roses are continuing to bloom. After deadheading them this afternoon I cut a few to bring indoors to Ann. And there's still enough in our small rose garden to make a nice show.

The gardens still look good this year even in early November.

We have three sunflowers just opened this week, they were planted late and we didn't expect this unexpected success. Need to dead head roses too.

Love to see the pictures of Suffolk, as a child stayed with relations in a large village south of Diss and Harleston. No family left there now.

Thank you Pat.

Hello Pixie Mum. Nice to hear from you. On your geographical description, probably Eye or Bedingfield, although both of these consider themselves small towns. Indeed the village sign, on entering Eye, used to be BOROUGH of Eye, and I was always a little surprised that they hadn't put an exclamation mark after it.

The village was Fressingfield, on the B1116. The very old cottage in which relations lived is in Laxfield Road.

Church of St Peter & Paul there has beautiful carved pew ends; the Baptist chapel - Bottom chapel - was financed by a great aunt of mine. Don't know about Top chapel the Methodist one, but it was a landmark at Christmas 1957 when we drove from London in a hired unheated Ford Popular. The weather was foggy, my mother leant out of front passenger window with torch to direct Dad away from ditches. They were lost and a cheer came up when we passed Top Chapel on our right.

Have never forgotten that Christmas, indeed even can remember clothes I wore for the journey, the miserable film on TV, must have been BBC as no ITV in East Anglia then. From research think film may have been Anne of Green Gables as remember Canada and some deaths.

Hello P.M. Yes, we know that area quite well; in fact we lived in Hoxne (about three miles from Fressingfield) in the late sixties. We still occasionally go up to Halesworth to see friends. You'd find the area hasn't changed that much in the intervening half century since you stayed there!!!
