In a brotherly way, not intending to be any ruder than is expected of a younger sibling, I dunno why, but I just keep thinking of Alice in Wonderland. Something about the doll's-house-delicacy of proportion in the furniture perhaps.
Is there a bottle labelled 'Drink Me' on the table somewhere? Whatever became of that banqueting table for three dozen guests you had in the dining room at W.H.?

Dear Sir, With regard to your question about the proportions of our dining room; since you last honoured us with your presence at it, the oval table has been turned through ninety degrees, so that, in the photographic representation of it, it appears round, and therefore smaller. This is more convenient when just the two of us are present.
I remain, young Sir,
With fraternal afection,

Yours sincerely,
Mike.

P.s. Table at W.H. is still there.

Glad to know the Major is still dining comfortably at W.H.
Sorry I had forgotten the true shape and size of your current nosh-board (I think my little-grey cells have turned a little green at the edges perhaps). I still find something visually odd about this picture, perhaps it is the angle from which it was taken?
I gather your present dining table has accrued a modicum of antiquity somewhat exceeding its outsize kin at W.H.

Not a Major. A Major-General. Think G. & S. "I am the very model of a modern......." And no he is not still dining comfortably at W.H. He has moved on, but I think he probably (as I did) sold the table and chairs with the house. When Ann's Great Grandfather bought the place in the 1890s he too bought them with the house, so it would be a shame to move them on now, and anyway, you'd need to be moving to a very large place to take them with you.......

P.s. Sorry didn't answer your question regarding the relative ages of the two tables, but you're right. The one at W.H. was made circa 1840-1850; the present one circa 1760 -1770.
Regards, Mike.

I have a sneaky suspicion that 'Pooter enjoys your blog, she has just gone 'Kablog!' by way of her v-word. I rather wish the governing algorythms had enabled her to give a v-phrase or v-sentence on occasion.
