You appear to have a Luristan bronze cup of simple form dating from 1000 to 800 BC. (see Carl's Curios for pictures of others)

A form used to shape leather circa 1650.

I'm sure you're right. It appears to be a bronze wine cup, made in Lurestan somewhere between about 800 and 1200 B.C.

Be interesting to know how (and when) it got to Suffolk!

P.s. Hello Skippy. I can see what you mean, although it would have to be of solid bronze for that purpose, instead of the sheet bronze of which it's made.

It looks to be very evenly patinated all over, which suggests to me that it had one or a few careful owners and has since been undisturbed in a stable environment and rediscovered centuries later.
